The Potter's
House Christian Centre in Perth was birthed in
revival in October 1978.
With weekly 'Concert
Outreaches' on both Friday and Saturday nights attracting
hundreds of people, scores of new believers banded together
sharing a new hope and new life in Jesus Christ. Within a
few months nearly 100 people had formed the foundation of an
new church!
But the
story really begins in Arizona, in the United States of
America.
Several
years earlier, a similar revival had touched a little church
in Prescott, Arizona. The 'Jesus Movement' was sweeping
America and multitudes of young people were being profoundly
saved and converted to Christ. while many of the traditional
churches closed there doors to the long haired, denim clad
'hippies', Pastor Waymen Mitchell received them with open
arms.
Pastor
Mitchell's solid grounding in the Word of God and his
passion to take the Gospel into all the world was soon
imparted into the hearts of many zealous new converts, in a
short few years, several young couples were launched
surrounding cities to pioneer new churches.
In 1978, one
of these couples was sent to Perth to begin a new church,
following the pattern that had been set in Prescott Arizona.
From the beginning the emphasis was Evangelism,
Discipleship, Church Planting and World Evangelism.
25 years
later that one church planted into Perth has grown to nearly
500 members and has in turn planted dozens of
couples that have planted 130 churches into 18 countries of
the world!
